Job description
From Happyrobot Inc.’s job post, as they wrote it.
About HappyRobot
HappyRobot is the infrastructure for enterprises to build and orchestrate AI workforces. Our AI workers don't just communicate through voice and email - they make decisions, take action, and run operations autonomously across entire enterprise systems. Born in Y Combinator (S23) and backed by a16z, Base10, Prysm Capital, and Eurazeo with over $150M raised, we power critical operations for global enterprises worldwide.
Read the full description
Our platform is battle-tested in the most demanding environments, where AI has real consequences. We started in logistics, built our own voice stack, models, and orchestration layer from the ground up, and are now bringing that infrastructure to every enterprise that runs the real economy. Learn more about our vision in our manifesto.
Role Overview
HappyRobot is hiring a Revenue Accounting Lead, a builder who will help stand up our revenue accounting function from scratch, reporting to the Head of Accounting. Our revenue model is genuinely technical: platform fees, compute credits, professional services, and usage overages, each with its own recognition pattern, which will need to be automated.
This is a 0-to-1 job. You and the Head of Accounting will design the process and the system flow at the same time together, and you'll be expected to automate the tasks and processes using AI finance tools (including our own platform). If you think like a finance engineer, someone who builds scalable systems, not just someone who processes transactions, this role is built for you.
What You'll Do
* Design & Scale Revenue Close: Architect and execute monthly and quarterly revenue close processes across platform fees, credit consumption, professional services, and usage overages, systematically automating steps to ensure speed and accuracy.
* Drive Process Automation: Identify manual, repetitive accounting tasks and deploy AI agents and automated workflows, exercising strategic judgment on optimal human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
* Configure Sub-Ledger Systems: Partner in setting up the revenue sub-ledger for our new ERP from the ground up, establishing robust methodologies for credit-pool breakage and monthly true-ups.
* Advise Deal Strategy & ASC 606: Collaborate with Sales and RevOps Deal Desk on complex, non-standard contracts and value-based pricing, embedding compliant ASC 606 treatment pre-execution.
* Manage Order-to-Cash (OTC): Oversee end-to-end OTC operations, from billing and collections to account reconciliations, aging analysis, and allowance for doubtful accounts reserves.
* Establish Accounting Policies: Draft foundational revenue policy memos, establish technical accounting standards, and lead key ad-hoc strategic initiatives.
What You'll Bring
* 4–6+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, with demonstrated expertise in consumption, usage-based, or SaaS revenue models.
* Systems-focused mindset with an appetite for automation, efficiency, and building scalable financial architecture.
* Proven, hands-on experience leveraging modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) and standard finance automation software in workflows.
* Strong operational judgment to balance automated efficiencies with critical human-in-the-loop review.
* Deep technical command of ASC 606, including multi-element arrangements, performance obligations, and variable consideration.
* Exceptional cross-functional communicator capable of translating technical accounting principles clearly for sales, engineering, and executive leaders.
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA active or in progress strongly preferred.
Why Join Us
* Collaborate with a world-class team of engineers, operators, and builders.
* Backing from premier investors including a16z, Y Combinator, Base10, Prysm Capital, and Eurazeo.
* High degree of ownership, autonomy, and execution speed in a high-growth environment.
* Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
* Competitive base compensation and meaningful equity upside.
Our Operating Principles
Extreme Ownership
We take full responsibility for our work, outcomes, and team success. No excuses, no blame-shifting — if something needs fixing, we own it and make it better. This means stepping up, even when it's not "your job." If a ball is dropped, we pick it up. If a process is broken, we redesign it. We don't wait for someone else to solve it — we lead with accountability and expect the same from those around us.
Craftsmanship
Putting care and intention into every task, striving for excellence, and taking deep ownership of the quality and outcome of your work. Craftsmanship means never settling for "just fine." We sweat the details because details compound. We aim to deliver jaw-dropping outcomes by being curious, meticulous, and proud of what we build — even when nobody's watching.
We are "majos"
Be friendly and have fun with your coworkers. Always be genuine and honest, but kind. "Majo" is our way of saying: be a good human. Be approachable, helpful, and warm. We give feedback with kindness, challenge each other with respect, and celebrate wins together without ego.
Urgency with Focus
Create the highest impact in the shortest amount of time. Move fast, but in the right direction. We prioritize ruthlessly, act decisively, and stay aligned. We're running a high-speed marathon, not a sprint with no strategy.
Talent Density and Meritocracy
Hire only people who can raise the average; exceptional performance is the passing grade. Ability trumps seniority. We reward contribution, not titles or tenure.
First-Principles Thinking
Strip a problem to physics-level facts, ignore industry dogma, rebuild the solution from scratch. We don't copy-paste solutions.
