Job description
From Blacksmith Agency’s job post, as they wrote it.
AI ENGINEER (LATAM, RSA)
Blacksmith Agency | Full-Time Contract | Remote
ABOUT BLACKSMITH AGENCY
Blacksmith Agency (BSA) is a fully remote WordPress design and development agency of ~40 people headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. We build high-performance websites for growth-focused companies across the US. We're not a typical agency. We run a sales engine, a production system and a growing AI automation layer that we're building into every part of how we work.
Read the full description
This role is a direct investment in that automation layer.
THE ROLE
We're hiring an AI Engineer to own and ship our internal automation roadmap. This is a builder role, not a research role. You will not be training models. You will be building production systems on top of them.
You'll work directly with our engineering and delivery leadership to take a well-documented roadmap of automation workflows (AI-assisted WordPress development, content generation, agentic pipelines) and turn them into shipped, working systems.
This role is for someone who has already built things with LLMs and can show it.
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD
- Agentic workflows using LangChain, LangGraph or equivalent frameworks
- Integrations with Anthropic and OpenAI APIs including tool use and function calling
- Internal tools that reduce manual hours across our design and development production process
- Automation pipelines that connect WordPress, Figma, Google Workspace and our internal CMS/component library
- MCP (Model Context Protocol) server integrations as part of our broader AI stack
WHAT WE NEED
Required:
- 2+ years building production software with Python or Node.js
- Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen or similar agent frameworks
- Proven API integration work with OpenAI or Anthropic (function calling, tool use, streaming)
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks and basic cloud deployment
- Solid version control habits
- English proficiency sufficient for async written communication with a US-based team
Strong bonus:
- WordPress or PHP experience
- Familiarity with Figma APIs or design tooling
- Google Apps Script or Workspace automation experience
- Background in web production, digital agencies or similar environments
- Experience with n8n, Make or similar workflow automation platforms
WHAT WE DON'T NEED
- A degree from a specific school
- Experience at a well-known tech company
- A polished resume full of buzzwords
We care about what you've built and whether it works.
HOW WE WORK
- Fully remote, async-first
- Phoenix, AZ timezone preferred but not required (MST, UTC-7) or East Coast Hours
- Contract engagement to start, with conversion path based on performance
- Direct access to leadership, no bureaucracy, fast feedback loops
HOW TO APPLY
Send a short message and 2 to 3 examples of AI or automation systems you've built. GitHub repos, deployed tools, Loom walkthroughs, or any format that shows the work. No cover letter templates. Just show us what you've shipped.
