The Review Editor, Scientific Journal evaluates manuscript submissions for scientific rigor and their potential for publication in JoVE Journal. As a key member of the Review team, this role upholds the scientific integrity of the Journal and directly supports our mission to advance research through visualization.
Responsibilities
* Make final publication decisions by evaluating the scientific validity of submitted manuscripts and their suitability for visualizing the protocol

* Review new submissions to ensure that the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and our publication standards
* Apply prompt engineering techniques to validate reviewer reports for relevance, completeness, and alignment with journal standards, ensuring consistency while maintaining editorial quality
* Use custom AI tools, custom GPTs, and prompt-based workflows to perform pre-QC checks such as identifying formatting issues, missing sections, language clarity, and guideline adherence before peer review
* Accelerate article publication through close collaboration with the Production team to move accepted manuscripts efficiently through the production pipeline
* Ensure timely editorial workflows by coordinating with peer review and the editorial team to meet review and decision deadlines
Requirements
* A Ph.D. in life sciences, chemical sciences, or engineering
* 3+ years of experience with editorial review and submission-to-acceptance workflows
* Prior experience in scientific publishing or peer review is preferred
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English
* Strong scientific and technical vocabulary
* Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality content
* Willingness to learn and leverage automation/AI-assisted tools for efficiency
* Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
* Genuine interest in communicating scientific methods through visual media
