Job description

From Online Doctor AG’s job post, as they wrote it.

Join OnlineDoctor: We're Expanding!

We are a fast-growing telemedicine company focused on improving access to dermatological care. Our platform uses technology to connect patients with dermatologists, enabling them to receive diagnoses and treatment plans remotely and asynchronously.

We are looking for a Senior QA Engineer to take full ownership of verification and testing for our product. This is a hands-on role covering both manual and automated testing: you will investigate new features and edge cases yourself, while building automation that makes repeated checks reliable and efficient. Your focus will be on one product, our medical device—its web application across desktop and mobile browsers, and its backend services. You will decide what needs human judgment, what should be automated, and how to focus testing on the risks that matter most.

Read the full description

You will be part of the Product & Tech team, working with a medical device in a healthcare environment where reliability, privacy, and evidence that critical functionality performs as intended are essential.

Responsibilities:

Testing Strategy & Collaboration

* Testing strategy: Define a risk-based testing approach, set coverage targets, identify gaps, and provide evidence-based recommendations on release readiness.

* Manual testing: Plan and conduct exploratory testing and risk-based regression for new features, integrations, and critical user journeys.

* Early involvement: Collaborate with the Product Owner and engineers to clarify requirements, edge cases, usability, accessibility, and testability early in development.

Test Automation & Infrastructure

* Automated testing: Build and maintain reliable automated API, integration, and end-to-end tests, selecting the appropriate testing level and integrating checks into CI/CD.

* Test infrastructure: Establish and maintain test environments, representative test data, and reporting to support effective day-to-day testing.

Verification & Quality Management

* Medical-device verification: Verify functionality against agreed requirements and acceptance criteria, maintaining clear verification evidence.

* Defect investigation: Investigate defects, communicate their impact, and work with engineers to address root causes and prevent recurring issues.

* Traceability & test management: Maintain a practical test case management system that keeps test cases current and links requirements, tests, results, defects, and verification evidence.

Requierements:

* Strong hands-on experience in manual testing and test automation, including ownership of testing for a product or major product area and maintaining reliable automated test suites.

* Sound judgment in defining risk-based testing approaches and deciding what to test, at which level, and why.

* Experience testing web applications and APIs, including authentication, permissions, integrations, and failure scenarios.

* Ability to investigate problems across the application stack and collaborate effectively with developers on fixes.

* Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows and making test results actionable.

* Experience selecting testing tools and establishing or maintaining test case management processes that keep requirements, coverage, and results traceable.

* A detail-oriented, pragmatic, and independent approach, with strong communication skills and the ability to follow issues through to resolution.

Nice to have:

* Familiarity with our stack (AWS, CircleCI, Python, pytest, react, jest, Playwright). This is helpful, but strong testing and automation skills matter more than experience with every tool we use.

* Experience using AI in your testing or engineering work, for example to generate or prioritize test cases, analyze failures, or build test tooling, with a clear view of its limits and of the verification needed for medical-device software.

* Experience testing products in healthcare or other environments with demanding privacy, security, or quality requirements.

* Experience designing test data and environments for complex integrations or sensitive information.

* Experience coaching engineers on testability and contributing to a broader quality culture.

What success looks like:

Within your first 6–12 months, you will have:

* Established a risk-based testing approach, identified coverage gaps, and prioritized improvements based on critical user journeys, edge cases, and product risks.

* Strengthened manual and automated testing through reliable test environments, representative test data, effective automation, exploratory testing, and clear medical-device verification records.

* Improved visibility into test results, outstanding risks, and release readiness, helping the team detect defects earlier and reduce avoidable production failures.

You will own the testing approach and work with the wider team to make well-tested changes the norm. Quality and release decisions remain a shared responsibility.

What we offer:

* Flexibility: You decide if you want to work remote or if you prefer to visit one of our Offices (Hamburg, St. Gallen). We offer you a flexible schedule and a working time model that suits you.

* Learning culture: We offer you a steep learning curve in your daily work and support you in your personal and professional development through regular retro and inspiration sessions as well as advanced training. We are open for ideas and impulses and help you with the implementation.

* Team events: Skiing in Switzerland, white water rafting in Vienna - we regularly get together with our entire team and thus increase our teamwork.

* Fair salary: An attractive salary is a matter of course for us.

* Additional benefits: Free choice of laptop, home office allowance, additional vacation day, etc.

* Our Values: Respect and tolerance are part of our DNA. We actively support diversity and inclusion, believing they are the keys to a successful and healthy company culture.

Work Location & Relocation:

Due to current legal and regulatory reasons, we can only hire team members who live in Germany or Switzerland. If you’re based elsewhere but excited to join OnlineDoctor, we’re happy to discuss and support your relocation to either country.
