Job description

From Approvely’s job post, as they wrote it.

We are looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer with a strong product mindset to help shape and build exceptional customer experiences across web and mobile. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep frontend technical expertise with strong UI/UX instincts, thrives in close collaboration with product and design, and can lead work from early ideation through production delivery.

You will play a key role in defining architecture, evolving our frontend platform, raising engineering quality, and building polished, customer-friendly experiences. You should be comfortable working from wireframes, mockups, or even loosely defined concepts, translating them into high-quality interfaces that are scalable, performant, and visually refined.

Read the full description

What You'll Do

* Lead the design and development of modern frontend applications across web and mobile
* Partner closely with product managers, UI/UX designers, and engineers to take ideas from concept to execution
* Build intuitive, elegant, and customer-friendly user experiences from wireframes, mockups, Figma designs, or lightweight product direction
* Deliver high-quality, pixel-perfect UI implementations with strong attention to detail
* Contribute to and evolve shared UI libraries, design systems, and frontend architecture
* Drive consistency, usability, accessibility, and performance across frontend experiences
* Create and refine rich interactions, transitions, and UI animations that improve product experience
* Lead engineering efforts by breaking down epics into stories and tasks, helping scope work, and providing thoughtful story point estimates
* Guide team execution in agile environments using Scrum, Kanban, or similar development practices
* Conduct and model strong engineering collaboration through pull request reviews, pair programming, and mentoring
* Work across frontend and adjacent platform layers to support scalable product delivery
* Help integrate AI and LLM-powered workflows into frontend development, including building and improving UI libraries with AI-assisted tooling
* Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and engineering best practices for quality and release velocity

Required Qualifications

* 5+ years of professional experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js
* Strong experience with frontend frameworks and ecosystems including: React, React Native, React Native for Web, Next.js, Tamagui and/or other related frontend frameworks
* Strong product and UI/UX focus, with the ability to deliver customer-friendly experiences from minimal inputs such as wireframes or design concepts
* Experience building and maintaining a UI library and working with or extending a design system
* Experience delivering pixel-perfect user experiences based on Figma guidance
* Experience creating thoughtful UI animation and polished interactive experiences
* Experience collaborating closely with UI/UX designers
* Experience using AI and LLMs to help build UI libraries and continuously improve existing frontend systems
* Experience with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD, including GitHub Actions
* Strong experience collaborating with engineers on software projects, including leading constructive code reviews through both Pull Requests and pair programming
* Experience working within agile software development principles, including Kanban and Scrum
* Experience leading work from ideation to execution by breaking down epics into stories and tasks and sizing work appropriately
* Experience with infrastructure as code, ideally with Pulumi, SST, Terraform or similar tools
* Experience consuming APIs and real-time data using REST, GraphQL, HTTPS streaming, WebSockets and other real-time or event drive protocols
* Experience with AWS infrastructure technologies such as: Lambda, ECS, Amplify, AppSync and related services

Nice to Have

* Experience using Expo to build dual web and mobile applications
* Backend experience with Serverless, Lambda, Step Functions, and other event-driven architectures
* Experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL
* Experience as an AWS cloud engineer or AWS architect
* Experience with messaging and event platforms such as Kafka, EventBridge, and SQS
* Experience building APIs using REST, GraphQL, HTTPS streaming, WebSockets, and other real-time protocols
* Experience in payments or fintech

What Great Looks Like

* You think like a product engineer, not just a feature implementer
* You have a strong ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing industry and customer trends
* You care deeply about usability, polish, and customer outcomes
* You can move fluidly between design, engineering, and product conversations
* You bring structure to ambiguity and help teams execute effectively
* You raise the quality bar through architecture, mentoring, collaboration, and craftsmanship
