ExeQut is hiring a Backend Java Developer to join our Maryland-based team in a hybrid capacity. You will design and develop robust backend systems serving U.S. enterprise clients, collaborating with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps in an agile environment. This is a great opportunity for a skilled Java engineer ready to take ownership of meaningful, production-grade work.
Primary Responsibilities
* Design and implement RESTful APIs and backend services using Java and Spring Boot
* Contribute to system architecture and design decisions with best practices in mind
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, frontend developers, and DevOps
* Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and sprint planning
* Write clean, scalable, and well-documented code
* Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to root cause analysis
* Optionally support product ownership tasks such as requirement elicitation and solution scoping
Qualifications & Requirements
Technical Expertise
* 3+ years of professional experience in backend Java development
* Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot
* Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs
* Solid understanding of software development best practices and architecture patterns
* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (no sponsorship available at this time)
Bonus Skills (Nice-to-Have)
* Java certification(s)
* Experience with Microsoft Azure
* Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines
Soft Skills & Work Expectations
* Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
* Comfortable working in a collaborative, agile team environment
* U.S. Citizen/Naturalized Citizens/Permanent Residents
Engagement Structure
This is a contract-to-hire position. The initial one-year employment contract is through ExeQut, with the candidate working hybrid at our client's Maryland location. Conversion to a full-time role directly with the client is the anticipated outcome upon completion of the contract.
