Job description

From R2’s job post, as they wrote it.

At R2, we believe that small and medium businesses are the productive engine of society. Small and medium businesses (SMBs) make up over 90% of companies in Latin America, yet they face a trillion-dollar credit gap. Our mission is to unlock SMBs’ potential by providing financial solutions tailored to their needs. We are reimagining the financial infrastructure of Latin America, where SMBs’ financial needs are met without ever having to go to a bank.

Read the full description

R2 enables platforms across Latin America to embed financial services that SMBs can leverage, starting with revenue-based financing. We are a high-performing, close-knit team with talent from organizations such as Google, Amazon, Nubank, Uber, Capital One, Mercado Libre, Globant, and J.P. Morgan.

We are entering a new phase of growth following a strategic investment from Ant International, focused on rapidly expanding our partner footprint, strengthening our credit and underwriting capabilities, and scaling operations across multiple markets. As part of this growth journey, eligible team members have the opportunity to participate in R2’s Phantom Share Program, a performance-based incentive designed to align our team with the company’s long-term success and value creation. We believe in building a culture of ownership, where those who help create value share meaningfully in it.

R2’s Credit Risk team is hiring an Associate Portfolio Manager to own the day-to-day credit execution across our Middle Market and Long Tail portfolios. In Middle Market, you will review large financing applications end to end and make the credit decision. In Long Tail, you will handle individual exceptions and, as you gain independence, contribute to policy. You will also run the team’s weekly and monthly portfolio monitoring and validate the monthly offer batches across our partners.

What you’ll do

* Review Large Loans applications end to end using transactional, credit bureau, financial, and tax data. Approve, reject or counter-offer, and present this in a committee
* Handle credit exceptions and counter-offers across Large Loans and Long Tail: analyze the request, decide or escalate, and follow through until the merchant has an answer. Own the underwriting pipeline for Large Loans
* Support the Product Manager and Commercial on merchant cases raised by partners, and provide the credit answer.

* Own the weekly and monthly monitoring of the Large Loans portfolio: originations, early delinquency, roll rates, NPL and concentration by partner, country and merchant.
* Follow large exposures after disbursement and catch early warning signs, such as falling sales, payment delays or bureau changes, so we can act before they turn into losses.
* Validate each partner’s monthly offer batch before it goes out, and flag anything that looks off.
* Present status of the portfolio in a Credit committee with KPIs and targets.

* Analyze segment performance by cohort, partner, ticket size, industry and risk profile to understand what drives losses and what drives good performance.
* Detect patterns that improve the risk-return of the segment: rules that generate false positives, profiles where we can grow safely, and signals that predict default earlier.
* Turn what you find into concrete policy proposals and bring them to the team’s portfolio and credit strategy reviews.
* Run your analysis with AI tools while directing the work yourself: decide what to look at, check the output against the data, and own the conclusion.

Who You Are

* +2 years in credit analysis, underwriting or credit risk at a fintech, bank or lender.
* Experience reading credit bureau reports, financial statements or tax documentation.
* Comfortable with portfolio metrics: delinquency, roll rates, cohort/vintage analysis and loss rates.
* Intermediate SQL and basic Python: enough to build your own monitoring queries and to read and check the code an AI tool writes for you, not just run it.
* Fluent written and spoken English.
* Judgment under a defined risk appetite: you form a view, decide and write down why.
* Curiosity about the numbers: when a metric moves, you want to know why.
* Organized and reliable with recurring processes and service levels.

Bonus

* Experience in revenue-based financing, embedded lending or merchant cash advance.
* Knowledge of credit bureau reports and SII tax documentation.
* Knowledge of the Latin American payments or acquiring market.
* Experience building dashboards (e.g. Tableau).
* Spanish or Portuguese.

What We Offer

* The chance to join a high-impact, mission-driven fintech.
* Ownership and impact in a fast-paced, growth-oriented startup.
* Cross-functional collaboration with exceptional teams.
* Exposure to complex regulatory challenges and innovation in embedded finance.
